Summer is the perfect time to sharpen your skills, deepen your focus, and get ahead. In addition to one-on-one private lessons and weekly group sessions, students take part in week-long intensive workshops led by WPMA’s esteemed faculty, and join their peers in the annual Atlanta Festival Academy Summer Festival, working closely with distinguished guest artists and faculty from around the world.
Each summer, WPMA brings together exceptional young musicians for a range of programs led by our faculty and distinguished guest artists. Whether your student is looking to deepen their theoretical foundation, develop a specialized skill, or perform alongside peers in an immersive ensemble setting, our summer offerings are designed to meet them where they are — and push them further.
Founded by WPMA co-founders William Pu and Amy Chang, and their dear friend Wei Lin in 2019, the Atlanta Festival Academy’s annual Summer Festival brings esteemed orchestra players, chamber musicians, pedagogues, and soloists from all over the world to Johns Creek during the last half of July.
The 2026 AFA Summer Festival will run from July 20-August 1 and is designed student musicians aged 12-19 years old and features two consecutive one-week programs: The Chamber Music Seminar and Orchestra Intensive. Learn more at the AFA website below.
A continuation of our Music Theory & Aural Skills class that runs during the academic year, this 6-week Summer semester musicianship class meets each weekend and places heavy emphasis on rhythm and ear-training.
Students will progress through a series of increasingly difficult orchestra excerpts, learning to count complex rhythms perfectly with a steady beat, identify intervals singing solfège, and work on core musicianship skills that allow for accelerated progress in their instrument studies.
This four-day intensive taking place June 15-18 is open to trombone students of all levels.
WPMA trombone faculty will lead students through warm-ups, fundamental routines, private lessons, masterclasses, coachings, solo & group performances, and more.
Score study is the systematic analysis of a musical score to understand its structure, harmony, orchestration, and expressive intent.
From July 14-17 students will work with a conductor to dive deep into orchestral masterworks, understand what every voice is doing at a given moment, and become a musician capable of making interpretive decisions that are informed by the composer’s intentions rather than pure instinct.
Students participate in conservatory-style, 1-week intensive workshops with a member of our esteemed faculty working through audition excerpts, etudes, and solo repertoire over the course of multiple private lessons, group workshops, and studio classes.
