We are proud to celebrate WPMA cello student Ethan Goh, who was selected to perform in a masterclass with internationally renowned cellist Zuill Bailey at Emory University last week, accompanied by our very own Sonny Yoo. Only three students were invited to play in the masterclass, with Ethan standing out as the sole pre-college cellist alongside two students from Emory University.
This honor comes in recognition of Ethan’s outstanding musicianship and achievements. He currently serves as Principal Cellist of the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO) and Assistant Principal Cellist of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO) for the 2025-26 season—positions that reflect his artistry, discipline, and dedication to his cello studies.

Zuill Bailey is widely regarded as one of the foremost cellists of his generation, celebrated for his technical command, expressive tone, and charismatic presence on stage. He is a Grammy Award-winning recording artist whose discography includes dozens of acclaimed albums, and his performances span leading concert halls across the globe. Bailey currently serves as Professor of Cello at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Throughout his distinguished career, Bailey has appeared as a soloist with over 200 orchestras worldwide including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony and many more, collaborated with some of today’s most important conductors and musicians such as Itzhak Perlman, Leon Fleisher, Jaime Laredo, the Juilliard String Quartet, Lynn Harrell, and Janos Starker, and established himself as a dedicated educator and advocate for music’s transformative power. His guidance in the masterclass offered Ethan—and all in attendance—a wonderful opportunity to learn from a cellist of international acclaim.
